Welcome to the website for the Division of Emergency Ultrasound of the Departmet of Emergency Medicine at Albany Medical Center in Albany, New York.
Located in the state's capital in upstate New York, Albany Medical Center serves as the only academic medical center for all of northeastern New York, with a referral base encompassing 46% of the state of New York. We serve as the only tertiary referral center and only Level 1 Trauma Center for over three million people in our region. The department sees over 88,000 patients per year, with an admission rate of over 40%. This includes over 3,600 trauma activations, making us the busiest trauma center in the entire state of New York. LifeNet of New York, a 10 aircraft aeromedical service is based out of the medical center, serves to transport the critically ill to Albany Medical Center for definitive care. Our Pediatric Emergency Department opened in 2018, and is adjacent to but physically separate from the adult ED. This together with a departmental culture rooted in education, conspire to create an exceptional environment for collaboration and the training in point of care ultrasound. Our institutions unique investment in simulated technologies, ultrasound machine/archive infrastructure, and sizeable ultrasound scan center also allow for cutting edge research and training.
The emergency department has supported a PGY 1-3 residency with 12 residents per year since 1988 and we initiated our now EUFAC accredited ultrasound fellowship in 2015.
Included in this site are resources for the resident's elective and education.
